Plug Types A–O Explained

There are 14 common plug types worldwide. Here's what each looks like, where it's used, and which adapter to pack.

The plug shape only tells you whether your plug will physically fit the socket — it says nothing about the voltage. A Type A plug fits sockets in both the 120V US and the 100V Japan; a Type C plug fits 220–240V sockets across Europe and Asia. An adapter changes the shape, never the voltage.

The Europlug (Type C) is the most widely accepted shape — it physically fits Type E, F, J, K, L and N sockets. At the other end, the UK Type G, Australian Type I, and Swiss Type J fit only their own sockets.
